Wadrick – Yeah, who would’ve thunk it, eh..? Yeah, look, sometimes I think Scarlett may be a little overrated as an actress (I call it Nicole Kidman syndrome – meaning, I think she’s good, but maybe not as great as everyone goes on. The critics can have Nicole Kidman, I’d bet on Naomi Watts any day). But hey, Scarlett’s still only young, greatness may well be in the post. (Plus, Eyes Wide Shut always shoots my Kidman theory down in flames…)

But yeah man, it’s really well worth a listen.

And yeah, I DO remember Sputnik getting a look-in on the Ferris soundtrack, for sure…good call, man…

Faystar – Cheers, man. Good to hear I’m not alone in my assessment. And you’re right, it IS a soothing album. Nice to chuck on in the background or the foreground. It’ll be interesting to see where she takes things from here. Maybe an album of original songs? Who knows, maybe an album of Dylan covers? Maybe not. Let’s not go crazy…

Then again, maybe some of the bad press may’ve killed her confidence. Which is a shame. Coz there’s far worse stuff out there becoming successful for all the wrong reasons.

I’m with ya Decoy. You are one of the only reviewers that has actually defended Scarlett’s album.
I’ve read some really lazy and close-minded reviews of this. Like you said, it was hated before a note was heard. I think it’s a challenging and strangely soothing record.
I don’t think she’s claiming to be a great singer, the girl just wanted to make a tribute to Waits. Good on her. I think it shows more class and balls than so many other actress-turned-singers out there.

I can’t stand her as an actress, but I gotta hear this…!

And Sputnik…whoa! Now that takes me back!…(remember their sonic appearance on the soundtrack of Ferris Bueller?)
